Native American Heritage Month
In honor and celebration of Native American Heritage Month, the Notre Dame Initiative on Race and Resilience, in collaboration with artist-in-residence David Martin, hosted a Native American dance and drum performance in DeBartolo Hall. The program featured songs and dance styles of Potawatomi and other Great Lakes region tribes to share culture, celebrate heritage, and strengthen connections between the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi and the University of Notre Dame. It was the first time in nearly 30 years that Notre Dame hosted a large Indigenous dance and drum event on campus.

Continuing the ecumenical monastic tradition begun between Trappist monk Thomas Merton and the Dalai Lama, the Hillebrand Center for Compassionate Care in Medicine invited the Labrang Tashi Kyil monks to create a Medicine Buddha sand mandala to recognize the common goal of compassion among all spiritual traditions and philosophies in the response to suffering. The mandala was done to honor the compassion of health care workers and anyone who dedicates their life to making the world a better place. Upon completion, the sand mandala was dismantled to symbolize the impermanence of all that exists.
