April is when campus comes alive with new life and a buzz of activity. This April had spectacles in the sky, on the ground, and even on the water!
Campus experienced a 96.7 percent solar eclipse on April 8. The next time a solar eclipse occurs near campus will be in 2099.

There’s . . . well . . . a lot . . . that students do on campus in April. Here’s just a small slice of it:

Did you know? Father Sorin established Notre Dame’s first natural history collection. The Museum of Biodiversity in Jordan Hall of Science continues that tradition with an extensive collection of insects, plants, and animals for research and learning. (Photos by Barbara Johnston)
Just after midnight on April 5, Fisher Hall senior Ethan Springfield ’24 finished an Ironman triathlon, almost 19 hours after beginning the effort, flanked by dozens of Fisher Hall residents cheering him on. Ethan did the triathlon (a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike ride, and 26.2-mile marathon) to raise funds for St. Adalbert Church with $1 pledged for every mile completed. (Photo by Matt Cashore)
One of April’s signature events is the Fisher Regatta, a daylong celebration involving racing makeshift watercraft across a short stretch of St. Mary’s Lake. For some mariners like Kyle Pulido, finishing in the boat wasn’t a priority. (Photo by Matt Cashore)
On April 25, University President Rev. John I. Jenkins, C.S.C., received a gift from students after Mass in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart. Following the Mass, students were invited to join Father Jenkins for a picnic and fireworks on South Quad. The gathering was Father Jenkins’s way of thanking students for the many ways they supported and inspired him during his 19 years as president of the University. (Photo by Barbara Johnston)
